Amenities

The following facilities are available for guest use in the Amenities building:

Kitchen and Dining Room

  • 4 large cooking bays, 16 cooktops, 2 bench top ovens, 2 microwaves, 2 commercial toasters, a wall-mounted hot water dispenser, 2 fridges (one with a freezer), heat pump for colder days.
  • Limited cooking and eating utensils.
  • Dining tables and chairs and 2 outdoor tables and benches on a deck area.

The Kitchen/Dining Room is closed between 10.00 am-12.00 pm daily for cleaning.

Laundry

The Laundry has 2 washers, 2 dryers and a large washtub. Each machine costs $4 per use and takes $1 & $2 coins. Laundry powder sachets are available for purchase from the shop.

The Laundry is closed for cleaner use between 10am and 2pm daily.

Drying Room

The Drying Room has heating and a fan for drying outdoor clothing and footwear, handy for those wet days.

Pay Phone

A public pay phone is available for use in the Amenities foyer. It accepts credit cards and phone cards.

Recycling

Recycling bins are located either side of the Amenities building and outside the Lodge. We ask all guests to recycle where possible.

Barbecue

A gas barbecue and outdoor tables are located on a grassed area outside the Amenities building. There is outdoor lighting, the light switch being located on the outside of the Amenities building.

Lodge

The Lodge has a large, fully equipped kitchen, a large dining room and lounge area with wood burner and TV. Bathrooms are located in the hallway near the bunk rooms.

General Information

Shop

A small shop is open from 8am to 6pm and has basic groceries, snacks, drinks and ice creams. The nearest supermarket is 40 minutes drive from Whakapapa village.

Wi-Fi

High speed, unlimited wi-fi is available for guest use at no extra charge.

After Hours Help

Guests requiring after hours assistance should phone 027 8923 898. In an emergency, dial 111 and ask for Ambulance, Police or Fire.

On Site Shuttle

DEMPSEY BUSES operate from the Holiday Park with shuttles to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in summer, the ski field in winter, and train and bus transfers at National Park village.

Duvets and Towels

are available for hire for a small fee.

Smoking

For the comfort of guests who are non-smokers, please do not smoke indoors. Cigarette bins should be used and are located around all buildings.

Pets

Pets are not permitted in the Tongariro National Park. Fines apply. The only exceptions are Guide Dogs and Mountain Rescue Dogs for which a permit must be carried.

Fires

Open Fires are not permitted in the Tongariro National Park  – Large fines may apply.

Alarms & Emergency Evacuation

An  EVACUATION MESSAGE will activate over village loudspeaker in the event of A VOLCANIC ERUPTION. The message will be an alarm followed by  a spoken message giving instructions to evacuate the camp ground. Staff will assist all guests to evacuate in the unlikely event of a Lahar. The safe assembly point is at the Tongariro Chateau.

The local FIRE BRIGADE are called out to emergencies in the region every now and again. This alarm sounds like an  AIR RAID SIREN and should not be confused with the evacuation message noted above.
