8am to 6pm daily   (except on days when shuttles are running to the Tongariro Crossing, On these days, the office will open at 6.30am)

Late Arrivals

Guests arriving after 6.00pm will find their check-in details in the Late Arrivals Box next to the office door.

General Information


A small shop is on site with basic groceries, snacks, drinks and ice creams. The nearest supermarket is 40 minutes drive from Whakapapa village.


High speed, unlimited wi-fi is available for guest use at no extra charge.

After Hours Help

Guests requiring after hours assistance should phone 027 8923 898. In an emergency, dial 111 and ask for Ambulance, Police or Fire.

On Site Shuttle

DEMPSEY BUSES operate from the Holiday Park with shuttles to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in summer, the ski field in winter, and train and bus transfers at National Park village.

Duvets and Towels

are available for hire for a small fee.


For the comfort of guests who are non-smokers, please do not smoke indoors. Cigarette bins should be used and are located around all buildings.


Pets are not permitted in the Tongariro National Park. Fines apply. The only exceptions are Guide Dogs and Mountain Rescue Dogs for which a permit must be carried.


Open Fires are not permitted in the Tongariro National Park  – Large fines may apply.

Amenities Building

The following facilities are available for guest use in the Amenities building:

Kitchen and Dining Room

  • 8 cooking bays with 16 cooktops, 2 bench top ovens, 2 microwaves, 2 commercial toasters, a wall-mounted hot water dispenser, 2 fridges (one with a freezer), heat pump for colder days.
  • Cooking and eating utensils available for loan from reception.
  • Dining tables and chairs and 2 outdoor tables and benches on a deck area.

Please note, the Kitchen/Dining Room is closed between 10.00 am-12.00 pm daily for cleaning.


There is a Laundry with 2 washers, 2 dryers and a large washtub. Each machine costs $4 per use and takes $1 & $2 coins. Laundry powder sachets are available for purchase from the shop.

Drying Room

There is a  Drying Room with heating and a fan for drying outdoor clothing and footwear, handy for those wet days.

Pay Phone

A public pay phone is available for use in the Amenities foyer. It accepts credit cards and phone cards.


Recycling bins are located either side of the Amenities building and outside the Lodge. We ask all guests to recycle where possible.


Gas barbecues and outdoor tables are located on a grassed area outside the Amenities building. There is lighting for night time.


The Lodge has a large kitchen which is fully equipped, a large dining room, a lounge area with wood burner for winter and a large TV and bathrooms including 4 toilets and 4 showers in total.

Alarms & Emergency Evacuation

An  EVACUATION MESSAGE will activate over village loudspeaker in the event of A VOLCANIC ERUPTION. The message will be an alarm followed by  a spoken message giving instructions to evacuate the camp ground. Staff will assist all guests to evacuate in the unlikely event of a Lahar. The safe assembly point is at the Tongariro Chateau.

The local FIRE BRIGADE are called out to emergencies in the region every now and again. This alarm sounds like an  AIR RAID SIREN and should not be confused with the evacuation message noted above.
